2017 Finland

In celebration of Finland’s 100 years of independence, countless events have taken place under the Suomi 100 name. Finnish Profile is a special edition series created for museum shops to mark this historic milestone.
When I think of Finland, the first thing that comes to mind is its language—distinct, intricate, and deeply iconic. While Finland shares its landscapes and lifestyle with Scandinavia and Russia, Finnish stands apart, unlike Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, or Russian. As a foreigner, I have translated this uniqueness into a visual language, shaping it into the very form of these objects.
The Finnish language is built on compound words—single words that expand by combining radicals and elements to create nuanced meanings. Inspired by this structure, I have designed Finnish Profile as a series of modular objects, allowing for playful combinations tailored to individual needs. The result is a set of versatile office table accessories, embodying Finland’s essence through the fluid, organic curves of local pine—capturing the Finnish profile in both material and form.
