Helsinki Photo Festival is an annual summer event that displays Nordic and international photography work around multiple locations, both outdoors and indoors, in Helsinki. Starting from 2018 with pop-up outdoor exhibitions, it introduced Nordic photographers to the public in popular event sites such as Teurastamo, and boost international artists at Birgitta seaside park, Stoa Cultural Center and World Village Festival. The pioneer activities in 2018 were successful and led to more expansive events in 2019.
Rising from the Lake is a new customized stand for the first indoor exhibition in the 2019 Helsinki Photo Festival. The simple modular system consists of structural metal tubes, bars, and bases, which can be separated and packed small for delivery and assembled on-site efficiently. The high mobility of the design corresponds to the need for temporary exhibitions competently.
The scenery of lakes scattering over the land is iconic in the Finnish landscape, and the customized stands resemble the appearance of the geographical scene. Helsinki Photo Festival is a non-profit association based in Helsinki, yet seeks to disseminate information about photography locally and internationally. The photo-stands combine practicality and branding in its design.
